It's a Pleasure for You to Meet Me

Let's take a moment to revel in self-adulation with Uncle Snoop!

Whether he's your fave or you find him to be a bit problematic, Snoop Doggy Dogg has been dropping gems on us for decades! From Doggystyle to Doggy Fizzle Televizzle to the Book of Love and being besties with Martha Stewart, Uncle Snoop is a force to be reckoned with!

As a result, the OG finally received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, nephew. The whole ceremony was great with tributes from Dr. Dre, Pharell, Warren G. and the most original of OGs, Quincy Jones. Check out this compilation video of the ceremony, or watch the entire speech here.

Let me tell y'all why this speech, particularly the last minute, ministered to me: Snoop took the time to thank himself:

“I want to thank me for believing in me, I want to thank me for doing all this hard work.” - Snoop D.O.DoubleG

I had to take a praise break!

I'm not gonna spend a whole lot of time on this, it's one of my speaking topics - hire me to hear the whole speech ;-). But, this was the most powerful moment of the event. Yes, having other people talk about your greatness, or your impact on their lives is amazing and it is indeed an honor to know that you've made a difference to so many.

However, the ability to confidently acknowledge the role you've played in your own life is a blessing! And Snoop did just that and I got my entire life from it!

For some reason we are taught to not speak well of ourselves, it's looked upon as arrogance. But if "gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body (Proverbs 16:24)", why not laud ourselves for our accomplishments? I argue that it is not arrogance, but assurance! Assurance that you know who you are and whose you are. We can't control what other people say about us, but we can control what we say about ourselves!

Tell the people, Mama Ru!

Depression, suicide, and self-loathing is almost our default setting for life and that saddens me. Watching this man take the time to dab himself was therapeutic and very necessary, so get into it! Uncle Snoop just proved to the masses that showing up for yourself is the most important thing you can do, it's not conceit or self-aggrandizement, it's self care.

Show up in your own life like Bey taking the stage.

God made me and Jesus graced me, so Imma love me for being me, Feel me? Fa shizzle!
